Overview to Mortelle: the dream of the city remains hanging on the Strait Bridge

It is the dream in the drawer of the administrations that have succeeded each other at the helm of the Metropolitan City.

The extension of the Panoramica, from Granatari to Mortelle, has been included in the list of compensatory works related to the Bridge over the Strait.

Everything, therefore, depends on the construction of the stable connection between Sicily and Calabria.

Construction sites that, according to the indications of the Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, should be started by the end of the year.

The future of the new road thus depends on that of the Bridge. Messina is waiting.

The last technical-economic feasibility project dates back to 2021.

The new urban bypass road, classified as type D and in continuity with the current one, should be one kilometer and one hundred meters long, with two lanes in each direction on separate carriageways and an overall width of 22 meters, including shoulders and side sidewalks.

The passage to the east of the cemetery is planned.

According to the study already prepared - although the project, at this point, could be revised - interventions for the environmental protection of the small lake of Ganzirri are also expected.

The collection of rainwater is planned, channeled into a first rain treatment plant, in compliance with the principle of hydraulic invariance.

The cost then estimated was 7 million and 800 thousand euros and the Metropolitan City of Messina had announced its intention to realize the awaited infrastructure by tapping into Pnrr funds.

But then there was a silence over the project, and the document remained locked in a drawer until a few months ago, when Palazzo dei Leoni decided to take it up again and propose it to Webuild as a compensatory work.

The benefits that the new road will bring to the traffic of the extreme North area are undeniable.

The extension to Mortelle will ease traffic along the narrow via Frantinaro, which connects the Panoramica to via Consolare Pompea, a road that becomes impassable during the summer period.

An advantage also from the perspective of civil protection: it would indeed speed up the connection between the Tyrrhenian area and the Papardo Hospital, ensuring faster response times for emergency vehicles.
