According to initial reports, the man was exposed to substances or vapors that caused him second-degree burns on the entire left side of his body. Local Carabinieri and Spresal inspectors (Prevention and Safety Service in Work Environments) from the Asp of Palermo have responded to the scene of the accident. Technicians are working to carry out the necessary investigations and verify compliance with safety regulations within the factory, in order to ascertain any responsibilities or technical failures that may have caused the incident.
"We express our deep solidarity and support for the 45-year-old worker who was severely burned yesterday afternoon at the TecnoZinco plant in Carini." This was stated by Antonio Nobile, Coordinator of Fim Cisl Sicilia for Palermo and Trapani, and Francesco Foti, General Secretary of Fiom Cgil Palermo, along with the Rsu Fim Cisl, addressing the workplace accident that occurred at TecnoZinco. "Fortunately, the conditions do not seem serious, but it could have been worse. The incident shows that in terms of safety, we can never do enough. We continue to assert that work cannot be a risk to life. It is necessary to ascertain whether all safety regulations have been followed, because it cannot always be attributed to tragic accidents; we must do more." Fim and Fiom conclude: "As part of the latest renewal of the national sector contract, we have strengthened the issue of workplace safety, which involves discussions and analysis of incidents like this with the Workers' Safety Representative. For this reason, we will request an immediate joint examination with the company management to verify the safety conditions of the site and the measures the company intends to adopt to prevent similar tragedies from happening again. We will closely monitor the evolving health conditions of our colleague and will not back down one millimeter on the protection of the health of those working in the factory."
