The Falcone Borsellino Airport in Palermo is preparing to strengthen its central role in the Mediterranean. Km Malta Airlines, the Maltese flag carrier, announced today the launch of a new direct connection between the island of the Knights and the Sicilian capital, included in the summer program 2026.
The new route will start on May 30 and will operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. This is an important development for the Palermo airport, as the city currently has no direct flights to Malta. David Curmi, the company's president, emphasized how Sicily and Malta share profound cultural and economic ties: "We are confident that this connection will further strengthen the connectivity between the two islands," he stated.
The reaction from Gesap, the company that manages Palermo airport, was also enthusiastic. The CEO Gianfranco Battisti welcomed the initiative, calling it a strategic route that fits perfectly into the airport's international development plan. "This connection — Battisti commented — helps support the growth of international traffic and fosters new tourist and commercial flows, in line with the path of opening up to foreign markets that Gesap is pursuing."
Tickets for the new route are already available for booking through the company's website and app, as well as through travel agencies and authorized channels. The initiative promises to become a driving force for proximity tourism and for professional exchanges between the two territories, historically close but until now separated by the lack of a non-stop flight.
