Femicide in Messina, the neighbor: 'It had become an impossible situation'

"I've lived here for a lifetime, this is a quiet area and more or less we all know each other forever. With Mr. Bonfiglio, even though he lived in a nearby apartment, I didn't have much familiarity because he had just moved here. We saw that he was seeing Mrs. Daniela who had also lived with him in the past. We heard arguments between the two several times and Daniela shouting and we noticed police and carabinieri intervening multiple times. Once an ambulance even came and the lady was taken to the hospital. We realized it was a situation that had become impossible and more than once the woman truly risked her life."

Mrs. Rosaria Perrone, a neighbor of Santino Bonfiglio, on via Polveriera 51, in Messina, says this. Bonfiglio has been arrested for the femicide of Daniela Zinnanti.

"I - she adds - am a woman and am the mother of three girls and so you can understand the concern and the sorrow I felt for what could happen. Even though we were not surprised in the neighborhood, we all thought it wouldn't end well, not that he would kill her of course, but certainly that he would harm her again."
