Athletics: at the Virtus World Championships in Spain, double gold for the Paralympic champion from Gela, Salvo Bianca
After winning the 60 hurdles title yesterday with a new European record (8"77), this morning he won the high jump competition, improving his personal best to 1.80. Tomorrow he will compete in the pole vault and long jump, aiming for a magical quadruple.
The Paralympic champion from Gela Salvo Bianca never ceases to amaze. At the ongoing Virtus Indoor World Championships in Ourense, Spain, he won two world titles, dominating yesterday's final in the 60 hurdles and today achieving a magical double with a new personal best of 1.80 in the high jump, which secured him a second gold medal.
Two gold medals that add to the exceptional palmarès of Salvo Bianca, who boasted before this world event in Galicia 25 Italian titles, more than 10 Italian records, and one world record. Last October, at the World Championships in Brisbane, Australia, he finished with an extraordinary haul of podiums: 3 gold medals, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.
Salvo Bianca in Ourense confirmed his extraordinary talent by winning gold in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8"77, which, in addition to being the new Italian record and European record, is very close to the world limit. Today, in addition to winning gold in the high jump, he improved his personal best of 1.70 by clearing the bar set at 1.80.

“And it’s still not over - says a happy Massimo Bianca, the father-coach of Salvo - and after these first two gold medals, tomorrow Salvo will try to close this world event with a magical poker as he will be competing in the finals of the high jump and pole vault, where he is among the favorites for success.”
Virtus is the international sports federation for athletes with intellectual and relational disabilities, and in Spain, Salvo Bianca, born in 2004, registered with Milone Siracusa, will try to make history by going for two more titles: in the pole vault, where the versatile athlete from Gela has a personal best of 2.70, and in the long jump, where this year he improved, landing in Siracusa at 6.24.
