Alarm of gender violence: new hi-tech tools to protect those who report
Soroptimist and Carabinieri together against abuses: here's how the reception of victims changes
In Agrigento and its province, the phenomenon of violence against women shows no signs of decreasing, and in some areas, it is even on the rise. "This room is an important safeguard, a safe place, where we can welcome victims who find the courage to share their painful experiences and thus also report. A place that, beyond the importance of laws and the intervention of Institutions, Law Enforcement, and therefore also the Carabinieri in cases of gender violence and the judiciary, represents a space where we can listen to the victim with respect and attention, and provide the necessary assistance in this difficult journey." This is stated by Major Annamaria Putortì, who, among other things, was the first woman to command the Carabinieri Company in Agrigento, on the sidelines of the press conference regarding the donation from the “Soroptimist” association of new tools necessary to update the computer equipment of the “Room of One's Own” or “Pink Room”, the listening and protection space for women victims of violence.
The press conference was held at the briefing room of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri in Agrigento. Present were the provincial commander, Colonel Nicola De Tullio, the president of “Soroptimist” Anna Maria Barraco, and psychologist Olga Milano, Prefect Salvatore Caccamo, and the leaders of various associations dealing with gender violence.
