The President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, in a video message about the crisis in the Middle East, stated: "Certainly we are in a difficult phase. However, the government is committed to protecting the security of Italy, the security of its citizens, and is dedicated to supporting every initiative aimed at seeking peace." Meloni added: "We are also working to mitigate as much as possible the consequences of the conflict for citizens and our nation. With task forces activated to monitor the trend of energy prices, gasoline, foodstuffs, and to combat speculation. In particular, regarding gasoline, we are considering activating the mechanism of so-called mobile excise duties that this government has made more effective with the fuel measure of 2023 in case prices rise steadily." The message was disseminated through Giorgia Meloni's Instagram profile.
